Once again I am running behind on my updates. The Texans won their 8th game of the season in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans by a final score of 34-6 in Nashville, TN. The defense was in full form during the game shutting down the anemic Titan offense allowing only 257 total yards. The Texans held the Titans to a whopping 84 total yards in the first half. The Texans debuted their dual quarterback offense incorporating newly signed B.J. Daniels. It appears this will be short-lived at Brian Hoyer is slated to start Week 17 against the Jaguars. If the Texans gain a lead maybe the starters will be rested and we might get to see more of B.J. Daniels. The team made 4 roster transactions this past league week.
1. Tony Washington (LB) designated to Practice Squad Reserve/Injured
This works just the same as Reserve/Injured (commonly referred to as IR) for the practice squad players. Washington’s salary cap charge will move to the IR tables, and the amount will not change.
2. Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo (LB) signed to the Practice Squad
DeWalt-Ondijo is an outside linebacker and played college football at Duke University. He will account for two weeks of practice squad salary totaling $13,200. DeWalt-Ondijo will be eligible for a Future’s Contract after the conclusion of the season.
3. Charles James (CB) designated to Reserve/Injured
James had been dealing with a partial fracture in his foot, and it became worse during the game. James does have a split salary designation, so his salary for the last week of the season will drop down based on a $333,000 base salary rate. James’ new salary cap charge will be $319,588 and it will move to the IR table. James is under contract for the 2016 season.
4. Corey Moore (S) signed to the Active Roster
Corey Moore will replace Charles James on the 53 man active roster. Moore was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in May 2015 and has spent the last 16 weeks on the Texans’ practice squad. Moore signed a 2 year contract making him an exclusive rights free agent in 2017. Moore will have a salary cap charge of $25,888 for the final week of the season.
5. Brian Cushing Salary Cap Adjustment
Brian Cushing had a LTBE roster bonus based on 14 games for the 2015 season. Cushing was active for the 15th game of the season exceeding his LTBE amount and moving into the NLTBE bonus. His weekly bonus of $78,125 will be applied to the salary cap immediately. This will also occur in Week 17. You can find the meaning of LTBE/NLTBE on the FAQ’s page.
6. Weekly Roster Bonuses
The Texans use active game day roster bonuses for many of their top & middle tier players. The player has an annual roster bonus, which is paid out each week the player is on the 46 man game day active roster. Rahim Moore, Brian Hoyer, and Garrett Graham were inactive and did not receive their respective roster bonus. The following players did receive their bonus:
|Player Name||Roster Bonus Amount|
7. Week 16 Snap Counts
Offense: 72 Plays
Defense: 66 Plays
Active Special Teams (no offensive/defensive snaps): Brian Peters (LB), Shane Lechler (P), Nick Novak (K), Jon Weeks (LS).
Active but Did Not Play:
Inactives: Brian Hoyer (QB), Darryl Morris (DB), Rahim Moore (DB), Justin Tuggle (LB), Oday Aboushi (OL), Garrett Graham (TE), Cecil Shorts (WR).
5. Salary Cap Space Update
Going into Week 17 of the NFL Regular season the Texans have approximately ~$2.681 million in cap space.
